Thompson's Park's best known feature is 'Joyance', originally a bronze statue by Sir William Goscombe John, of a boy playing with a jet of water. This was commissioned by Charles Thompson and was installed in 1899 as the centre-piece of a small ornamental pond at the south end of the Park. Jan 2012 • Solo. This is a very pleasant old park, with a duck pond, flowers, trees and lots of green grass, on two levels. It's on bus routes so you can get there quite easily and it's fairly close to Chapter Arts Centre and Llanover Hall Arts Centre. It's a good place to go for a walk, sit and read, have a picnic or play games.

They mark historic land boundaries and relate to the 1912 land transfer from Charles Thompson to the Cardiff City Council. Originally there were stones numbered from 1 to 17 and these can be seen on copies of Parks Department plans held in the Local Studies section of the Cardiff Central Library. There are plans dated 1911, 1912 and 1933.

Nursery. An area in the upper park, on the west side, was used as a nursery, to supplement the work of the Castle Nursery in Bute Park. It adjoined the property known as Preswylfa (originally owned by the Thompson family) and specialised in growing wallflowers to supply other parks in Cardiff. The nursery closed in around 1982-83.

The original name is thought to be derived from Syr Dafydd Matthew, who lived in the 15th century and was granted land in the parish of Llandaff for services to the King (Edward IV).

Its on two levels - the upper level is a considerably sized field, great for kids to play games and sports on whilst the lower level has some really mature flowers and trees and a lovely little stream feeding.
